Junho talks about his experience and what makes TFS a special place to be. He shares how convenient it was to
come from South Korea, his dorm life, academics, and more.
International Student Experience - South Korea
Hello. My name is Junho so and I'm senior at Tallulah Falls School. Before I come to Tallulah Falls School, I was really interested in the foreign languages, especially Chinese and English. And then I was having more interest in on English because of the many, like movie shows or like TV shows, and many literature stuff.
And then I heard that I can get out. I got the opportunities to study in America. That's all. I think that lead me to come to telephone school to learn more experience in English. One of my my father's friends, son was in this Tallulah Falls school, and I met him in Korea, and he helped me a lot about how is American life going to be?
And he gave he said that our Tallulah Falls schools give a lot of opportunities to students experience new things, especially international students. So I thought that it would be a really good opportunity to come here to study more about the globe relief, especially international students and day students too. First thing I was really, I mean, the best thing about this school is a direct flight from South Korea to America, because I know some of the students who's in Texas and like Arizona, they have to transfer to the east different states such as like California or New York.
But I heard that they have many troubles on that. But having a direct flight in Georgia gave me a lot of benefits to not struggling on those kind of problems. I think my best part of Tallulah Falls School is great view and environment, because I was living in the city and I didn't have any chance to experience those kind of environment, especially my favorite, favorite thing is every morning, before I go to school, when I open the door from the dorm, there's a beautiful sky and like mountains view. It's like I can refill to go back to study. It's helped me really a lot, especially environment, also that the good teachers and the good programs lead me to grow better student and adult and to learn more to be a better adult. I think I did multiple activities in Tallulah Falls school because they gave many opportunities to me, especially in the sports wise, I did a soccer and baseball in Tallulah Falls school.
Every sport is open to everyone, so I was able to attend the multiple sports to experience a lot of sports drills and many programs at academic stuff. They have NHS Key Club, and many those kind of good programs that lead me to do a more community service and volunteering. Also I me and my Chinese friends create a robotics club. That's probably my main activities that I did in Tallulah Falls school. The School allowed me, allowed us to create a new club, and after we show them, we are able to compete with other teams and other region schools start to support our club more, and I think that caused us to go a Georgia championship such as, like we we got the Promote award this year, and three, 3/3, place in Design Award, and then seventh place in the State.
Yeah, I did a lot of dual enrollment classes. I did it online and in person too. In person, I was able to learn many different subjects from the professor or the teachers. Especially I liked Dr Jenkins environment science courses, because that caused me to choose the major for NYU, for the Civil and Environmental Engineering, and then online, I did make an introduction to the technology and computer science that made me to get more interesting in the engineering department. Definitely sure that the dual enrollment classes helped me to develop more my knowledge and the subjects. For example, I took the biology when my 10th grade, and I was pretty interested in and our College of admission teachers offered me the college biology, and that caused me a lot, huge impact to me, because I realized that I was really interested in biology and to Step forward to the further levels in the future, I think I met more than 30 different countries of international students in tele school.
It was really unique experience, because I was able to talk about the different culture and traditions they have, especially the one thing that I really enjoyed was International Day. That that from the International Club, because that we can show to our culture and traditions, to the domestic students and the international students.
Also my favorite moment that I had in as an international student over here was the World Cup. One of my Russian, Russian friends, and feel my European friends will see each other watching the World Cup game was together and talk about the soccer, about each country. Was a really unique experience that I had in this school. I think the tawaf falls weekend activities offers a lot of bears experience to the students in the locally, we went to the tower falls river to do like hi, do a hikings, or do the petal board, those kind of stuff, so we can experience the environment the near, near tawaf falls have has also and further wise, we went to like H Mart, or we went to, like a car car festivals, and many festivals around in Georgia.
So I was, I was able to experience the American culture, not inside of the school, also the outside of the school too. I think my favorite trip in Tallulah Falls is obviously charsen trip that I had in 10th grade. Sadly, for this year, 10th grade, 10th grade, they are not able to attend this year. But that all week, that when I went to the Charleston trip, like I was able to build more friendship with my friends, because usually, as a day students, we only stayed together in the school day or even more sports time.
But it's not long enough for us to build more friendship. But after the Charleston trip, I think I'm really close with most of the students in my grade. That's why I think the Charleston trip was really unique for me, and that's probably my favorite trip that went from TFS. Another part the good, good characteristic of the TFs is safe, because every time when we have a problem in the dorm or a problem in outside of school, we always practice the lockdown and like a fire drill, or even, like the different kind of mini drills, so students were able to prepare for those kind of happenings or accidents. So I felt really safe. Also, the environment near our telephone school gave me the health feeling, or like fresh feeling in the school school day. When I was ninth grade, I was I was able to understand the English, but I was not really good English speaker. However, especially, Miss Walker helped me a lot like one tutor me a lot, by one by one to be a better English speaker and how to write the essay. Because America have different essay type than other international schools, they helped me a lot to be a better English speaker and writer. So every English class that I took helped me a lot to be a better to get a better skills and better knowledge.
Yeah, definitely. I think I met many friends, not not as in the America, as an internationally too, especially Chinese students and Serbian students. I think I made a close many close friends that even though some of them, they're graduate by still contact with them about their college life, or further, like their international life in the different countries, dorm life, making make us to be more close friends with international students, because we always together, and then, like, we always go to the activities together, then make us to be all better human relationships.
And also, the one thing that I learned the most was the etiquette, etiquettes, or like, how to talk with other other students, to like to behave to other students, because everyone have a different characteristics, and then they have different behaviors. And like, obviously, they're always have a conflict between an intervention students because they have different culture, such as, like Bahamian students like to turn the music loud, and Chinese students want to be quiet, usually, but I was the SLA and international leader in the dorm. I realized that communicating each other make us to solve those kind of easier. And so I think dorm gave all those kind of many experience to be a better students, or, like, better adult, to prepare for the real society and outside. Yeah, I think Tallulah Falls school prepared me for the college especially because I was laying out looking through the college application. Like college courses in their website, their college courses website,
their courses and their programs was really similar with the Tallulah Falls School, where they're prepared students for, like, a courses, schedules, those kind of stuff. So I think Tallulah Falls school well structured for for students who are ready for the college for the next level, I definitely agree that I'm glad to choose telephone school to to be a alumni or like a graduate student from Tallulah Falls school, because I was young when I was ninth grade, or before I come to Tallulah Falls school, but after I'm almost end of the senior in Tallulah Falls school, I think I'm ready for the next level, and then I'm ready to go step forward in college or in the real in real society.
One thing when I'm going back to my hometown or my country to introduce my school, one thing I'm really want to talk about is good friends and good teachers, and many good people I met in here. So I think those kind of human relationships create a good move of school, also the environment helped me a lot, too.
Those kind of many aspects to make me to introduce other students to come to school, to enjoy same experience that I had in PFS. I got accepted in New York University for class of 2025 I'll be major in Civil and Environmental Engineering, and I will be really excited to learn more in Civil and Environmental Engineering, because I'm really interested in the engineering and the biology.
